My remarks today on refusing to vote for the defense authorization bill until the vaccine mandate on our military is ended.
Our young men and women in the military deserve better. The Biden administration's vaccination mandate has forced our nation's young patriotic men and women to choose between their faith and their career, between their medical autonomy and their career. At a time when the military is struggling to meet their targets for recruitment, the Biden administration is firing soldiers we invested in and trained.
Some will argue that the vaccine mandate in the military is not new. That is correct. But there are several factors unique to the COVID vaccine that make it different than other mandates.
SCOOP w/ @TylerOlson1791: GOP senators led by @RandPaul @SenRickScott demand vote on military vaccine mandate in exchange for advancing NDAA.https://t.co/KoYk24gPzt — Kelly Laco (@kelly_laco) November 30, 2022

First, the CDC acknowledges that the COVID vaccine does not stop transmission so the argument that the mandate will stop incapacitating spread in the close quarters of the military is not applicable. Second, The COVID vaccine has a risk of causing inflammation, particularly in young men, particularly the young men that comprise over 90% of our military recruits. In addition, several scientific studies, including a very large one in Israel and another one by the CDC have shown that a heightened risk of myocarditis for children and teenagers. After taking a second COVID vaccine dose, Israel saw elevated rates of myocarditis after young men were vaccinated, particularly after the second dose because of the scientific evidence. European countries began restricting the vaccine for certain age groups. Germany France, Denmark, Finland and Sweden all limit their recommendations for vaccines for young people, Norway, South Africa and UK chose not to recommend or chose to recommend only one dose because of the risk of myocarditis.
Dr. Paul Offit, a former member of the CDC’s advisory committee on vaccines, part of the FDA’s advisory committee on vaccines, resigned over this policy. He also said that even though he's pro-vaccine, he's been pro everything vaccine for 40 years, that he wouldn't give the vaccine to his 24 year old son. Third, the mandate ignores naturally acquired immunity. 80% of our young military recruits have had COVID by compelling the young people to inject a vaccine into their bodies. They're accepting a risk of myocarditis. In fact it is inadvisable to take a vaccine. If you've recently had COVID, even the CDC admits this.
Our service members have spent their entire lives dedicated to protecting our country and making sacrifices to defend the constitution. Congress should take action. We're taking action today by saying we will not vote to get on the NDAA, the defense authorization bill, unless we have a vote on ending this military vaccine mandate.
Didn’t someone try to legislatively mandate a special inspector general to scrutinize Ukrainian spending? Oh, that’s right, it was my amendment and most Democrats AND Republicans opposed any semblance of oversight. https://t.co/dYTSpbLi2O — Rand Paul (@RandPaul) November 27, 2022

Fox News reports, "White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre snapped at reporters who raised questions about the origins of COVID-19 during Tuesday's press briefing, which featured outgoing White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci."
"During questions after the White House coronavirus response team updated reporters on the administration's vaccine efforts, Daily Caller White House correspondent Diana Glebova attempted to ask a question regarding what Fauci has done to investigate the origins of COVID-19," the report continued. "But Jean-Pierre shut Glebova down and rebuked her for speaking out of turn."
WOW. They WILL NOT tolerate questions on the virus origin cuz Fauci funded the gain of function research in Wuhan that most likely created it. That would make them responsible for millions of deaths, but stay angry at Rogan & anyone questioning Big Pharma pic.twitter.com/7IVEegpyjR — Jimmy Dore (@jimmy_dore) November 22, 2022

"We have a process here. I'm not calling out on people who yell. And you're being … disrespectful to your colleagues, and you're being disrespectful to our guest," Jean-Pierre said. "I will not call on you if you yell, and also you're taking time off the clock because Dr. Fauci has to leave in a couple of minutes."
When Glebova objected, Jean-Pierre said she was "done" and was "not getting into a back-and-forth with you."

So sensitive! It's no secret that Fauci and I have tussled more than once on this subject, and as I said in an interview in August, "I think the key was that all three scientists that we brought in—and these were esteemed scientists that have been interested in this issue for some time—all three of the scientists agree that the research … was gain-of-function research, that this research was a dangerous type of research that should have been reviewed by the pandemic committee that reviews dangerous research, and that it wasn't."
"What Dr. Fauci said, directly in committee, that the [National Institutes of Health] does not fund gain-of-function [research] in Wuhan and never has is an out-and-out lie."
Fox News reports (emphasis added), "The leading candidate to replace Nancy Pelosi as the next House Democratic leader is a 2016 election denier who openly argued that former President Donald Trump was an 'illegitimate' president."

"House Democratic Conference Chair Hakeem Jeffries announced Friday he's running to lead Democrats in the next Congress," the report continued. "He appears to have a clear path to the job since no other challenger has emerged so far, and he has won praise from several Democrats."
Fox News noted, "But Jeffries was one of many Democrats who questioned whether Trump legitimately won the 2016 election due to alleged Russian interference and collusion. He often made statements about Trump's 2016 victory that are similar to claims Trump made about the 2020 race being stolen.
"The more we learn about 2016 the more ILLEGITIMATE it becomes," Jeffries tweeted from his congressional account in 2018. "America deserves to know whether we have a FAKE President in the Oval Office."

Throughout the midterm election and still, the media applied "election denier" to Republican candidates who have had questions or doubts about election results.
Will the media now apply the same standard to Rep. Hakeem Jeffries?

On Thursday, Sen. Rand Paul asked FBI Director Christopher Wray during a Homeland Security Committee hearing about reported collusion between the federal government and Facebook.
“You may think it’s just jolly well to get all this stuff without a warrant that people volunteer to you, but many of us are alarmed that you’re getting this information that are private communications between people, because it is against the law,” Paul said to Wray.
“It’s against the law for Facebook, or social media companies to give it to you," Paul added. "But it’s also against the law for you to receive it.”
Paul continued to press Wray, “Are you taking information that you’re getting not through the warrant process, and then going around and coming back and using that as a predicate for getting a warrant to actually get the information you’ve already been given?”
Wray replied that the FBI merely got “tips” from companies.
Paul had good reason for his line of questioning.
The Intercept's Lee Fang reported on October 31 (emphasis added), "The Department of Homeland Security is quietly broadening its efforts to curb speech it considers dangerous, an investigation by The Intercept has found. Years of internal DHS memos, emails, and documents — obtained via leaks and an ongoing lawsuit, as well as public documents — illustrate an expansive effort by the agency to influence tech platforms."
The report added, "Behind closed doors, and through pressure on private platforms, the U.S. government has used its power to try to shape online discourse."
Paul said to Wray on Thursday, “The question is — is when we start to talk about political speech."
The senator then cited the New York Post's Hunter Biden laptop story that Facebook suppressed before the 2020 presidential election.
“What ‘The New York Post’ article said is, yes, you’re getting this,” Paul explained. “And then when they’re finally read in context — and this is from a whistleblower, which makes us suspect you’re not being forthcoming or honest with us — is that whistleblowers are saying you are receiving this information from Facebook and others, and that you are going around the Constitution then come back and try to get warrants for it. But then once you read it, there’s been no actionable intelligence on this."
"But this is an active program that you’ve got," Paul added. "You work for the government, you should admit to us whether or not you have a program going after our speech.”
Wray insisted that the federal government's only interest was in investigating violence and not speech or expression.

If Democrats gave a flying you know what about human rights they’d stop funding and arming the Egyptian regime that imprisons political dissidents like Alaa Abd el Fattah. https://t.co/1sr82DphY8 — Rand Paul (@RandPaul) November 15, 2022

Why is the Egyptian regime receiving U.S. aid when it continues to commit human right abuses?
From Politico in March: "On the Senate floor, Paul dinged President Joe Biden for emphasizing human rights in U.S. foreign policy but continuing to arm Egypt. The senator criticized the decision to withhold a relatively small amount of military aid as a 'slap on the wrist' while continuing larger arms sales.
“We should end military sales to Egypt’s criminal masters,” Paul said. “Partially taking away some military aid while offering new sales that are 10 times what we’ve withheld shows weakness in the face of oppression.”
That American aid to Egypt's government was passed by Congress nonetheless.
From the BBC on Monday: "The family of jailed British-Egyptian pro-democracy activist Alaa Abdel Fattah, who is on hunger strike, say they have received proof he is alive.
A letter to his mother written two days ago says he is 'drinking water again' and 'receiving medical attention'.
'I can sleep today without nightmares,' his sister said in response.
His family had not heard from him since he started refusing water on 6 November to coincide with the start of the COP27 climate conference in Sharm el-Sheikh…

The 40 year old, who is imprisoned for allegedly 'spreading false news', has become a symbol of the 60,000 political prisoners believed by human rights groups to be languishing in Egyptian jails. Egypt insists there are none."
