U.S. Senator for Kentucky | I fight for the Constitution, individual liberty and the freedoms that make this country great.

'Bipawtisan' bill would stop testing on 100 million animals a year

"The FDA Modernization Act would accelerate innovation and get safer, more effective drugs to market more quickly by cutting red tape that is not supported by current science. It would also prevent the needless suffering and death of animal test subjects—which is something I think both Republican and Democrats can agree needs to end,” Paul said.

The Washington Examiner's Paul Bedard writes, “We as a nation recognize that when you can use an alternative, you should,' said Wayne Pacelle, the head of Animal Wellness Action and the Center for a Humane Economy, which are key supporters of the Paul legislation. The bill also has the support of senators including New Jersey Democrat Cory Booker and Republican Sens. Mike Braun of Indiana and John Kennedy of Louisiana…

‘This is a core American value to oppose cruelty to animals. It is just a sign of our mercy and decency to care for the least among us in our society,’ Pacelle added.”

'Criminalizing dissent is something that we should all be appalled with'

New York Post: "Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Wednesday that Americans should 'be afraid of your government' after Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that the FBI would probe a purported spike in threats to local school officials amid protests over mask mandates and the addition of critical race theory to curricula.

'Moms at school boards are being told that they’re criminals, potential domestic terrorists, for the crime of dissent,' Paul told 'Fox News Primetime,' 'and I think criminalizing dissent is something that we should all be appalled with.'

When host Ben Domenech asked Paul what he would say to Americans who are worried that 'if they go to their local school board and say the wrong thing, that they’re going to end up on some list that Merrick Garland goes after,' the senator answered in no uncertain terms.

'I would say be afraid. Be afraid of your government,' Paul said."

'Your freedom as a whole becomes negotiable to whoever is in power'

NBA star Jonathan Isaac is on point.

"We’re entering a period of time where the government is setting a precedent that, in light of any emergency, your personal autonomy, your religious freedom, and, honestly, your freedom as a whole, becomes negotiable to whoever is in power," Isaac said.

'Your antibodies are probably better at that point than the vaccination'

Project Veritas: Nick Karl, Pfizer Scientist: “When somebody is naturally immune -- like they got COVID -- they probably have more antibodies against the virus…When you actually get the virus, you’re going to start producing antibodies against multiple pieces of the virus…So, your antibodies are probably better at that point than the [COVID] vaccination.”

Chris Croce, Pfizer Senior Associate Scientist: “You’re protected for longer” if you have natural COVID antibodies compared to the COVID vaccine.

Education Secretary touts mask study—gets rebuked by senior author of the study

FEE’s Jon Miltimore writes, “On Monday, US Education Secretary Miguel Cardona touted new academic research to show that masks have been effective at reducing the spread of COVID-19 in schools…

Cardona’s tweet caught the attention of Tracy Beth Høeg, an epidemiologist and physician resident at the University of California-Davis, who worked on the study cited by Cardona.

'Secretary Cardona, I was the senior author of this study,' Høeg replied. 'Our study is not able to give any information about the role masks played in the observed low in-school transmission rates. We had no control group so [we] don't know if the rate would have been different without masks.'

Cardona had not responded to Høeg’s reply as of Thursday afternoon."

Rand Paul rightfully eviscerates HHS head Xavier Becerra

The Washington Examiner's Christopher Tremoglie writes, "Sen. Rand Paul rebuked Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra yesterday over vaccine mandates ordered by the Biden administration...

'The science is against you on this,' Paul said . 'The science is clear. Naturally acquired immunity is as good as a vaccine. This isn't an argument against the vaccine, but it's an argument for letting people make a decision who already have immunity.'

This was a rather important statement by Paul. 'Trust the science' has become an unofficial mantra for Democrats during the pandemic. It has been used to delegitimize all other opinions as intellectually inferior or not educated — to insult and discredit dissenters. Paul flipped the script.

'You, sir, are the one ignoring the science,' Paul said. 'Mr. Becerra, are you familiar with an Israeli study that had 2.5 million patients and found that the vaccinated group was actually seven times more likely to get infected with COVID than the people who had gotten COVID naturally?'

'I'm not familiar with that,” Becerra replied.

More FBI abuses of FISA process discovered

The Reactionary's Techno Fog writes, "Knowing the history of the FISA Court excusing government misconduct, we present the same question now that we did after the Clinesmith sentencing: What does it say about the FISA Court’s 'heightened duty of candor' if there aren’t heightened punishments for violating that duty?

And we have one final question - one that has applied to Director Wray for the last few years: how could the FBI Director allow these abuses to continue?"

Fox News reported Thursday: "DOJ watchdog Horowitz reveals over 200 errors in FBI FISA applications."

'Apologize to the American people for being dishonest about naturally acquired immunity'

The following is a partial transcript of my exchange with Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra during today's Senate Health Committee hearing.

PAUL: Are you familiar with an Israeli study that had 2.5 million patients and found that the vaccinated group was actually seven times more likely to get infected with Covid than the people who had gotten Covid naturally?

BECERRA: Senator, I’ll have to get back to you on that one. I’m not familiar with that study.

PAUL: Well, you think you might want to be if you’re going to travel the country insulting the millions of Americans, indulging NBA star Jonathan Isaac, who have had Covid, recovered, look at a study with 2.5 million people and say ‘Well, you know what? It looks like my immunity is as good as the vaccine or not. And in a free country maybe I ought to be able to make that decision. Instead you’ve chosen to travel the country calling people like Jonathan Isaac and others, myself included, “flat earthers.”

We find that very insulting. It goes against the science. Are you a doctor or a medical doctor?

BECERRA: I have worked over 30 years on health policy.

PAUL: But you’re not a medical doctor. Do you have a science degree?

(Becerra seems to indicate he does not).

PAUL: And yet you travel the country calling people “flat earthers” who have had Covid. Looked at studies of millions of people and made their own personal decision that their immunity they naturally acquired is sufficient. But you presume somehow to tell over 100 million Americans who’ve survived Covid that we have no right to determine our own medical care? You alone are on high and you’ve made these decisions? A lawyer with no scientific background, no medical degree.

This is an arrogance. Coupled with an authoritarianism that is unseemly and unAmerican. You, sir, are the one ignoring the science.

The vast preponderance of scientific studies, dozens and dozens, show robust, long lasting immunity after Covid infection. Even the CDC does not recommend measles vaccine if you have measles immunity. The same was true for smallpox.

But you ignore history and science to shame the “flat earners” as you call them. You should be ashamed of yourself and apologize to the American people for being dishonest about naturally acquired immunity.

What’s really a danger to democracy is allowing government to spy on political candidates

Newsmax: FISA is the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance court, and they have warrants that they can issue so they can listen to your phone calls. But the standard that is used by the government to give a warrant is they have to have probable cause that you’re associated with a foreign government.

That’s not what the Constitution says. If you’re an American the Constitution says they have to have probable cause that you’ve committed a crime. And they can search person, place and they can individualize with an individualized warrant. So the warrant is a lower standard, and I’m with going for foreigners and listening to phone calls from people we think might attack us.

But for an American, we need to use the U.S. Constitution and the Fourth Amendment. So the FISA court, where they use FISA warrants to go after President Trump, in I think a politically motivated way, they didn’t use the Constitution. The standard of the Constitution is here (raising hand high), the standard for FISA is here (lowering hand). They stooped down to using something we use on foreigners to using it against a presidential candidate.

I think too many people on the left, because they hate President Trump so much, can’t understand how dangerous this would be. This is incredibly dangerous whether you’re a Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, whatever you are, to let the power of government use this less than constitutional standard to go after your political enemies and listen to their phone calls… invade their privacy. It’s very, very dangerous to democracy.

All these people on the left, every day, saying ‘Oh Donald Trump’s a danger to democracy’… What’s really a danger to democracy is allowing government to be strong enough that they can investigate political candidates of either party.

Biden’s vaccine mandate will fine companies from $70k to $700k?

Forbes' Adam Andrzejewski writes, "President Joe Biden didn’t just announce a Covid-19 vaccine mandate on companies employing 100 or more people, he plans to enforce it.

On Saturday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s House quietly tucked an enforcement mechanism into their $3.5 trillion 'reconciliation' bill, passed it out of the Budget Committee, and sent it to the House floor.

Buried on page 168 of the House Democrats’ 2,465-page mega bill is a tenfold increase in fines for employers that 'willfully,' 'repeatedly,' or even seriously violate a section of labor law that deals with hazards, death, or serious physical harm to their employees.

The increased fines on employers could run as high as $70,000 for serious infractions, and $700,000 for willful or repeated violations—almost three-quarters of a million dollars for each fine. If enacted into law, vax enforcement could bankrupt non-compliant companies even more quickly than the $14,000 OSHA fine anticipated under Biden’s announced mandate."
