Freedom is the essence of American Exceptionalism

The American Spectator’s Bob Luddy writes, “Reducing inflation, strengthening national security, and growing the economy are top priorities.

Freedom is the essence of American exceptionalism. American prosperity requires the follow policies:

- Energy independence; drilling for oil and natural gas in America is required for national security.

- Attack inflation by reducing federal spending and eliminating $3 trillion deficits.

- Secure our borders and liberalize legal immigration, now impeded by endless red tape.

- Respect the innovators and producers with low taxes and regulation.

Time is of the essence, Mr. Biden. If we are to have strong economy and a secure nation, you need to respect and support hard-working Americans, both workers and producers.”

Abolish civil asset forfeiture

From Forbes: “Amid the surge of interest in police reform following the killing of George Floyd, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) reintroduced the Fifth Amendment Integrity Restoration (FAIR) Act last week, which would enact a sweeping overhaul of federal civil forfeiture laws. Among its many critical reforms, the FAIR Act (S. 4074) would redress many of the problems with civil forfeiture and abolish its most abusive form.

Under ‘nonjudicial’ or ‘administrative’ civil forfeiture, not only can the federal government confiscate property without filing criminal charges, owners can permanently lose their property without a judge ever hearing their case. Instead of impartial judicial review, the fate of a seized property is decided by the seizing agency itself. Worse, agencies have a direct financial incentive to forfeit property: Under federal law, they can keep up to 100% of the forfeiture proceeds.

A wide swath of property valued at less than $500,000 can be forfeited administratively, including bank accounts, cash, cryptocurrency, art, antiques, furniture, and jewelry, as well as any vehicle, boat, or aircraft. As a result, unless an owner swiftly challenges a seizure, administrative forfeiture is typically the default process on the federal level. And since hiring an attorney to fight back in court often costs more than what the seized property is worth, many owners are forced to walk away.

‘The federal government has made it far too easy for government agencies to take and profit from the property of those who have not been convicted of a crime,’ Sen. Paul said in a statement. ‘The FAIR Act will uphold the Fifth Amendment and ensure government agencies no longer profit from taking American citizens’ property without due process. It will guard against abuse while maintaining the ability of courts to order the surrender of proceeds of crime.”

Most Americans are over the pandemic

"It appears we’re entering the phase of the pandemic when even the pettiest of tyrants are beginning to see the absurdity of their mandates. But don’t give them full credit just yet. With the public pressure mounting and tolerance for bureaucratic edicts waning, they didn’t really have a choice.

Look no further than Washington, D.C. This week, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that the district-wide vaccine mandate for restaurants, bars, gyms, and other entertainment venues would come to an end on Feb. 15, just one month after its enactment. The indoor mask mandate now expires on Mar. 1.

While I’m certainly thrilled these mandates are being canceled and allowed to expire, I must ask, did this happen because Mayor Bowser finally saw the light when it comes to the ridiculous nature of vaccine and mask mandates? Was that the reason for the quick reversal? Or did she see the writing on the wall that spelled out a tale of protest and noncompliance?

I say it’s the latter. The truckers in Canada have certainly made their point. Imagine if D.C. workers and families resisted!"
