I am a United States Senator from the great state of Utah. Please help me restore constitutional leadership to Washington.
The Wall Street Journal on the massive infrastructure bill:
"Congress’s nonpartisan scorekeeper found that the roughly $1 trillion infrastructure bill would widen the federal budget deficit by $256 billion over 10 years, countering negotiators’ claims that the price tag would be covered by new revenue and saving measures."
"The score was released as the Senate advances amendments for the bill this week and didn’t create any immediate obstacles to final passage of President Biden’s economic agenda."
The bipartisan infrastructure bill would add $256 billion to the deficit over 10 years, the CBO said, contradicting negotiators' claims it would be fully paid for https://t.co/L4oTLEpWhF — The Wall Street Journal (@WSJ) August 5, 2021

Sen. Mike Lee said on the chamber floor on Wednesday, "Infrastructure is the physical backbone of our country. It’s an example of positive, constructive American achievement and accomplishment."
"Unfortunately, this particular bill, in its process, content, price tag and long term effects simply will not serve the country, Americans, and particularly Utahns, well," Lee said.
Lee warned, "It will ultimately be detrimental to our economy, to the daily lives of the American people, and even, in some cases, to infrastructure itself."
Watch Sen. Lee take apart this awful bill the Washington establishment is trying to pass under the guise of "infrastructure."
During his recent interview with Sen. Mike Lee, conservative talk host Mark Levin noted how some conservatives say they are not "social conservatives" or hawkish, but they are still fiscal conservative.
Levin worried that these days you can’t find many willing to be fiscal conservatives.
Sen. Mike Lee replied, “What they mean when they say that is these are Republicans who want to be liked. When they start hyphenating their conservatism and when they start minimizing it.”
Some of these people still call themselves conservative, but, you know, conservatism isn’t a state of mind. It’s manifested in one’s actions. It shows that you’re not willing to bow down and pray to the false idol god of big government.
Ultimately, that’s what socialism and all forms of statism and fascism are about. Attributing to government attributes of deity. All-knowing. All-powerful. Omniscient. Omnipotence. The ability to love you and care about you.
Government doesn’t have any of that, Mark, because government is just force. Our founding fathers understood that. We’ve lost that understanding today.
We’ve got to get it back."
Wearing a mask in public communicates a message—one with which the wearer may strongly disagree. Mask wearing also makes it harder to speak, be heard, and otherwise communicate, especially considering that we use facial expressions — which are largely concealed by masks — to communicate a lot of information when we speak. With few exceptions, the First Amendment prohibits governments from telling people that they can’t speak or otherwise communicate as they please (this applies not only to words, but also to “expressive conduct”). It also prohibits governments from “telling people what they must say.” In light of the foregoing, should government-issued mask mandates be subject to “strict scrutiny” under the First Amendment? If so, the government would have to prove that the mandate is the least-intrusive means of furthering a compelling state interest. By design, that standard is extremely difficult to satisfy.
