FEE’s Brad Polumbo breaks down why Sen. Rand Paul is right in his call to “resist” mandates and lockdowns, and also why the leftist Twitter mob attacking him is mindlessly wrong.
"Was there really anything wrong with what Sen. Paul had to say?" Polumbo begins.
Polumbo runs through a number of “journalists” and politicians who literally accuse Paul of murdering people with his words urging Americans not to accept mandates or lockdowns again.
Polumbo notes, “The first thing Rand Paul does is admittedly controversial, but he calls on people to peacefully resist the reimposition of these mandates and masks and other things imposed by the government.”
After playing a clip of Paul saying that Americans should resist any new government measures to restrict their freedom, Polumbo concluded, “I don’t see anything wrong with what the senator had to say there at all. He’s not calling for violence or anything of the sort."
"People who are saying that, that’s totally not true,” Polumbo noted.
“All he’s saying is that we need to reclaim our agency," he continued. "Reclaim our liberty. Go back about our lives and stop letting the government tell us what to do and dictate the minutia of our life."
Polumbo mentioned that the precautions taken at the beginning of the pandemic must be seen in a new light now due to the availability of vaccines.
"Because even if you believe, and I don’t believe this, that at the beginning of the pandemic some of that stuff - the mask mandates, the lockdowns, was justified because of the spread of COVID-19 - that’s no longer the case because the calculus has changed," Polumbo said.
He added, "There’s no longer an externality. Now, anyone who wants a Covid vaccine can get one.”
"There’s nothing wrong with Sen. Paul saying we shouldn’t stand for this anymore," he continued. "Because if we don’t stand up, guess what, government bureaucrats and petty politicians, like he says, they love power, and they’ve been able to expand their power to no end during this pandemic.
He added, "And they’re not going to give it up unless we fight for it."
Polumbo cited another point of controversy for Paul's critics, when the senator said in the video, “No one should follow the CDC’s anti-science mask mandates.”
“What he said right there is spot on," Polumbo insisted. "These agencies like the CDC and FDA, they messed up Covid testing at the beginning of the pandemic, not allowing private labs to make their own tests and forcing everyone to use a government test that didn’t work. They botched masks, telling everybody different things about masks. They have made mistakes time and time again. For example, school closures, They were on the wrong side of that issue for months and months and months before they reversed."
"And now, all Rand is saying is that we can’t trust these people with permanent power," Polumbo emphasized.
The entire video is a meticulous point by point breakdown showing were Paul gets it right and his critics, dead wrong.
