Critics complain that Frank Capra’s movie is at once too corny and too cynical: one brave senator singlehandedly defending the public good against the thoroughly corrupt political and journalistic establishments. But we’ve been seeing a version of that plot for two years now, thanks to Senator Rand Paul’s lonely battle against Anthony Fauci, the Centers for Disease Control, and the mainstream press.

Like the politicians meekly following orders in the film, most of Washington has bowed to the CDC’s Covid edicts, but Paul has never tired of challenging the agency’s futile policies and dubious science. Like the movie’s media baron Jim Taylor, Fauci’s cheerleaders in the press and on social-media platforms have shamelessly pushed the party line—and worked hard to squelch opposing views, though they prefer to use ‘fact-checkers’ rather than the street thugs whom Taylor hired to silence a rival newspaper. Journalists have smeared Paul, and censors have removed some of his scientifically accurate heresies from YouTube, but no one can stop him from regularly berating Fauci at the televised hearings of the Senate health committee.”

It was the next major step in the already continual centralization of government involvement and control of Americans’ personal health care. Fauci, who has served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984 and is the chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden, told Frist that ‘because I am representing science’ telling people to get vaccinated and to wear masks, ‘I get attacked’ with death threats that require him to be protected by federal agents.

Fauci has also been criticized by Republicans in the House and Senate. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., is one of Fauci’s harshest critics and has openly sparred with him during committee testimony, accusing Fauci of being responsible for the pandemic and funding gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology that Paul and others say resulted in a lab leak.”

Just The News reports, “Sen. Rand Paul, one of the few medical doctors in Congress, says there is ‘no clear thinking’ in the government’s current strategy for fighting COVID-19 as he urges regulators to develop a revised vaccine to better ward off new variants like Delta.

‘Why don’t we actually tell the FDA to speed up the approval of a Delta variant vaccine? See the one they’re wanting you to take now is a booster that apparently doesn’t work as well. It’s got about a 30 to 40%’ breakthrough rate on Delta, the Kentucky Republican told Just the News in an interview on the John Solomon Reports podcast.

‘I’m not saying don’t take it, I am for it. But I am saying that if [the virus] is escaping 30% or 40%, rather than just give a booster of the same thing why don’t we have quick FDA approval,’ he said, speaking of a revised vaccine. ‘Make sure it’s voluntary, because it will be a brand new vaccine, and it won’t have several months of testing. But for the vulnerable people say, ‘Look, this is now targeted towards the Delta variant, it uses the same technology. And we think it’ll go back to maybe a 90 or 95% chance of working.”
