Townhall reports, “In a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, Florida’s surgeon general Joseph Ladapo accused the Biden administration of ‘actively preventing’ the distribution of a life-saving Covid-19 treatment.

Ladapo detailed how Florida was ahead of the curve in using monoclonal antibodies, explaining that by mid-September, nearly 100,000 patients received this life-saving treatment.

‘Shortly after Florida’s 100,000 treatment milestone, and without any advanced notice, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced a dramatic reduction in the number of monoclonal antibodies to be allocated to the State of Florida,’ Ladapo said. ‘Governor DeSantis moved quickly to acquire Sotrovimab from GlaxoSmithKline to help alleviate the artificial shortage caused by this sudden shift from HHS. However, the lack of allocation of this life-saving treatment from the federal government continues to cause another immediate and life-threatening shortage of treatment options’ amid the spread of Omicron…

‘The federal government is actively preventing the effective distribution of monoclonal antibody treatments in the U.S. The sudden suspension of multiple monoclonal antibody therapy treatments from distribution to Florida removes a health care provider’s ability to decide the best treatment options for their patients in this state,’ he said. ‘This shortsightedness is especially evident given that the federal government effectively prohibited states from purchasing these monoclonal antibodies and serving their populations directly.”

Fox News reports, “Sen. Rand Paul pinned blame for thousands of monthly coronavirus deaths on Dr. Anthony Fauci over his bias toward vaccines.

‘I would venture to say that thousands of people die in our country every month now from COVID because [Fauci’s] deemphasized the idea that there are therapeutics,’ Paul, who is also a physician, said in an interview on the Ron Paul Liberty Report published Monday.

Paul explained that Fauci has a long history of a ‘bias’ toward vaccines, stretching back to his work on AIDS.

‘I think Fauci is of the philosophy that vaccines are incredibly successful and are the way to go versus therapeutics, for example. So with regard to AIDS, he was involved as the AIDS epidemic came up, he wanted to develop a vaccine,’ he continued in the interview with his father, former Texas Rep. Ron Paul.

‘There’s nothing wrong with that. He wanted to develop a vaccine. Vaccines can be great for polio or smallpox or wonderful. It didn’t actually work for AIDS.’

Paul has previously said that monoclonal antibodies ‘are one of the most promising treatments for the virus’ after a person has been infected, but that misinformation on the antibody treatment plagues ‘government bureaucrats.”

Even if the patient is willing to pay for the monoclonal antibody treatment, he wouldn’t be able to acquire it because our government owns it all. It should scare every American, as this shows a glimpse at what socialized medicine would look like. Even if you can afford a life-saving drug, the government gets to dictate who receives it.

National Review’s Charlie Cooke writes, “Two months ago, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida was being roundly castigated for promoting the use of Regeneron’s monoclonal-antibody treatment as part of his state’s efforts to fight COVID-19. Desperate to find something sinister in the push, DeSantis’s critics threw out every charge they could dream up. At first, the line was that Regeneron’s treatment didn’t work. Then, it was that Regeneron’s treatment worked fine, but represented a dangerous distraction from the vaccine. And, finally, it was that Regeneron’s treatment was part of a corrupt plot to enrich DeSantis’s donors.

Today, we learn from the Washington Post that, actually, none of that was the problem. Instead, DeSantis’s sin is that he has been relying upon monoclonal-antibody treatment too much, and that this is unfair to other states that now need it.

The Post informs us that the Biden administration has been so impressed by the impact that Regeneron’s treatment has made that it is now seeking to ‘stave off shortages’ of the drug by ‘purchasing 1.4 million additional doses’ and tasking the Department of Health and Human Services with setting ‘the rules for distribution . . . instead of allowing states, medical facilities and doctors to order them directly.’ In explaining this move, the Post submits that ‘soaring demand for the therapy represents a sharp turn from just two months ago, when monoclonal antibodies were widely available and awareness of them was low’ — which . . . is certainly one way of admitting that the same people who relentlessly condemned DeSantis for trying to raise that ‘awareness’ ‘just two months ago’ are today coming around to his point of view.

Regeneron is the treatment former President Donald Trump received when he came down with COVID-19 last year.

DeSantis is urging people at high risk — the elderly, the obese, people with diabetes — to get the monoclonal antibodies at the first indication of COVID-19.
