FEE’s Patrick Carroll writes, “Jordan Peterson has become an increasingly outspoken critic of COVID lockdowns and mandates in recent weeks, using his large platform on Twitter to push back against the restrictions in Canada and around the world. He has even called for civil disobedience in some cases, warning that even more freedoms could be lost if people don’t stand up for their rights.

‘We are pushing the complex systems upon which we depend…to their breaking point,’ Peterson wrote in a recent column for the National Post. ‘The cure has become worse than the disease.’

Though Peterson has been critical of many politicians, he has been particularly disparaging of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who has been an enthusiastic supporter of strict public health measures since the beginning.

‘These mandates bring out the petty authoritarian in everyone tasked with enforcing them,’ Peterson said recently, tagging the Prime Minister. ‘Not a good practice in a free society.”

FEE’s Jon Miltimore writes, “The findings do not suggest people shouldn’t get vaccinated. Again, there’s robust evidence showing vaccines reduce the risk of severe symptomatic COVID-19 reaction. What the research does suggest, however, is that vaccines are primarily a matter of personal health, not public health.

This is precisely what Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, a professor of medicine who studies epidemiology at Stanford, recently suggested. Bhattacharya noted that research indicates that the mRNA vaccines produced by Pfizer and Moderna offer abundant individual protection—Bhattacharya credits his own speedy recovery from COVID-19 to the vaccines—but don’t contribute to herd immunity or improve public health.”

The Washington Post reports, “The archbishop of the U.S. military is arguing that Catholic troops should not be forced to receive the coronavirus vaccine if it “would violate the sanctity” of their conscience, as thousands of active-duty service members remain unvaccinated ahead of a December mandate deadline.

Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio said in a statement Tuesday that although the Catholic Church’s highest doctrinal authority has determined that being vaccinated is not sinful, U.S. troops still can refuse vaccination on religious grounds. He cited Pope Paul VI, who wrote that a man “is not to be forced to act in a manner contrary to his conscience.”

“Notwithstanding the moral permissibility of these vaccines, the Church treasures her teaching on the sanctity of conscience,” wrote Broglio, who has supported the Pentagon’s vaccine mandate for U.S. troops. “Accordingly, no one should be forced to receive a COVID-19 vaccine if it would violate the sanctity of his or her conscience.”

This should go without saying, but apparently it is a controversial opinion for the authoritarians in our midst.

Inserting needles and chemicals into people without their consent is violence.

Depriving them of their basic human rights because they won’t give consent is also violence.

Those who promote either should be ashamed.
