From my Fox News op-ed today, “One way of denying that the NIH funded gain-of-function research in Wuhan is to scrub the NIH website of its ‘gain-of-function’ definition.

On October 20th, the NIH admitted in a letter to two Members of Congress that research supported by the NIH in Wuhan did create viruses that gained function or gained in lethality.

On the same day, the NIH removed its previous definition of gain-of-function research from its website and replaced it with another term: “enhanced potential pandemic pathogen” research…

Under Dr. Fauci’s convoluted definition, no experiment, no matter how deadly the combination, would be considered ‘gain-of-function’ unless the scientists knew in advance that the combination would lead to enhanced lethality.

Under Dr. Fauci’s word salad guidance no experiment combining viruses would ever be denied funding.

The NIH’s old and newly altered website admits that the NIH funds ‘gain-of-function’ research but that it needs to be ‘conducted in very high biosecurity laboratories.’  But we can’t even get to the question of whether the Wuhan lab was secure because Dr. Fauci won’t admit that ‘gain-of-function’ research even occurred.”

Yahoo News reported on Thursday (emphasis added), “A top NIH official admitted in a Wednesday letter that U.S. taxpayers funded gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses in Wuhan and revealed that EcoHealth Alliance, the U.S. non-profit that funneled NIH money to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, was not transparent about the work it was doing…

The revelation vindicates Republican senator Rand Paul, who got into heated exchanges with National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease director Anthony Fauci during his May and July testimonials before Congress over the gain-of-function question. At the second hearing, Paul accused Fauci of misleading Congress by denying that the U.S. had funded gain-of-function projects at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”

We now know about this funding because an NIH official admitted it.

But when the Paul and Fauci exchange originally happened, how many reporters thought it wise to investigate and see if there was any validity to Paul’s claims?

When @randpaul asked Fauci if the NIH had funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab, reporters spent their time mocking Paul instead of investigating if it was true.

How many “journalists” instead reflexively mocked Paul and defended Fauci?

The media today see its job as promoting and protecting the Biden administration, not challenging it.

Americans should know if their tax dollars went toward funding gain-of-function research in a Chinese lab and the potential implications of that research regarding the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Americans do know thanks to the efforts of Rand Paul, who, as a U.S. senator, did the investigating and reporting that no journalist thought important to do.

HHS Deputy admits Fauci’s NIH funded gain-of-function research in Wuhan but says it was “an unexpected result.” If the experiment combines unknown viruses and tests their ability to infect and damage humanized cells, of course the result is ‘unknown’ before the experiment.

In the letter to Representative James Comer (R., Ky.), Lawrence A. Tabak of the NIH cites a ‘limited experiment’ that was conducted to test if ‘spike proteins from naturally occurring bat coronaviruses circulating in China were capable of binding to the human ACE2 receptor in a mouse model.’ The laboratory mice infected with the modified bat virus ‘became sicker’ than those infected with the unmodified bat virus.

Report: A federal agency under Fauci’s leadership spent $424K cruelly experimenting on and euthanizing Beagles

FEE’s Brad Polumbo writes, “According to a new exposé from the anti-animal-experimentation advocacy group the White Coat Waste Project, the National Institutes of Health spent $424,000 on a study involving the abuse of dogs. The NIH department that is specifically under the leadership of Dr. Anthony Fauci funded this experiment, and it ‘commission[ed] a study in which healthy beagles are given an experimental drug and then intentionally infested with flies that carry a disease-causing parasite that affects humans.”

Polumbo continues, “The White Coat Waste Project discovered this through a Freedom of Information Act request that forced the government to turn over information and images from this cruel experiment…”

Polumbo adds, “And, according to the exposé, all the beagles will be euthanized at the end of this ongoing experiment.”

“Morality aside, the White Coat Waste project also argues that this experiment wasn’t even scientifically necessary,” he writes.

“What’s worse is that this is all completely unnecessary,’ the group reports.”
