Kat Cammack (R-FL) responds to the Biden Administration not sending diplomatic representatives to the 2022 China Winter Olympics, saying it ‘is the very bare minimum, scraping the bottom of the bucket of what this administration could do’, commenting that this action is not ‘being tough on China’. The Congresswoman notes that there are ‘many other ways that we should and could be holding China accountable for their gross human rights violations’, highlighting that ‘the fact that there is an active genocide happening right now in mainland China is an egregious fact’. She says allowing China ‘the ability to host the Olympics’ and the United States attending is helping to ‘highlight’ and ‘reward’ them on the ‘global stage.”

FEE’s Hannah Cox writes, “Some prominent Americans have condemned the decision to leave the region and argue that American troops should stay in what many have dubbed a ‘forever war’ to protect the human rights of these women.”

Cox continues, “It is clear that many have come to view our foreign wars less in the vein of national security and more in the role of humanitarian support. And when presented with images of such suffering it is easy to see why many feel compelled to intervene.”

“But while the intentions of these would-be do-gooders might come from genuine concern, war, and particularly American wars, have a horrible track record of defending and upholding human rights,” Cox notes.

She adds, “For the sake of space, let’s just examine the past two decades of US interventionism and its ramifications.”
