“Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., says he will advocate for an ‘international convention of civilized countries’ to gather and discuss the dangers of gain-of-function research.

Paul has been one of few leaders in Congress pressing for a hearing on the origins of COVID-19. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) last year acknowledged its efforts to fund gain-of-function research on bats infected with coronaviruses at a lab in Wuhan, China, before COVID-19 broke out and forever altered life around the world.

‘Not only do we need restrictions in our country,’ Paul told Fox News Digital in an interview of the research method. ‘I’m going to be advocating for an international convention of civilized countries to come together and discuss gain-of-function research and the potential harm it could cause on a global scale.’

‘The chances are that [COVID-19] came from the lab — and…we’re up to approximately six to seven million people dead throughout the world now — and this with about 1% mortality. If the next virus that gets out has a 15% or 50% mortality…we essentially destroy the underpinnings of civilization,’ Paul said.”

Paul submitted 11 ‘yes or no’ questions for Fauci to answer in a letter to Senate HELP Committee chairwoman Patty Murray, D-Wash., and ranking member Richard Burr, R-N.C, last week.

‘Fauci should go to prison for five years for lying to Congress,’ Sen. Paul continued. ‘They have prosecuted other people. They have selectively gone after Republicans, but in no way will they do anything about him lying. But he should be prosecuted for lying.”

Fox News reports, “Up until recently, the NIH website had a section that discussed gain of function research, providing a broad definition of ‘a type of research that modifies a biological agent so that it confers new or enhanced activity to that agent.’

On Oct. 20, the NIH removed that section from its website, replacing it with one that discusses ‘enhanced potential pandemic pathogen’ research, which it defined as ‘research that may be reasonably anticipated to create, transfer or use potential pandemic pathogens resulting from the enhancement of a pathogen’s transmissibility and/or virulence in humans.’

Paul accused Fauci and the NIH of ‘defining away gain of function … saying it doesn’t exist because you change the definition’ on the site.

‘There’s the preponderance of evidence now points towards this coming from the lab and what you’ve done is change the definition on your website to try to cover your a–,’ Paul asserted.”

From my Fox News op-ed today, “One way of denying that the NIH funded gain-of-function research in Wuhan is to scrub the NIH website of its ‘gain-of-function’ definition.

On October 20th, the NIH admitted in a letter to two Members of Congress that research supported by the NIH in Wuhan did create viruses that gained function or gained in lethality.

On the same day, the NIH removed its previous definition of gain-of-function research from its website and replaced it with another term: “enhanced potential pandemic pathogen” research…

Under Dr. Fauci’s convoluted definition, no experiment, no matter how deadly the combination, would be considered ‘gain-of-function’ unless the scientists knew in advance that the combination would lead to enhanced lethality.

Under Dr. Fauci’s word salad guidance no experiment combining viruses would ever be denied funding.

The NIH’s old and newly altered website admits that the NIH funds ‘gain-of-function’ research but that it needs to be ‘conducted in very high biosecurity laboratories.’  But we can’t even get to the question of whether the Wuhan lab was secure because Dr. Fauci won’t admit that ‘gain-of-function’ research even occurred.”
