“If Republicans regain a majority in the Senate this election, Paul stands to become chairman of the health committee, and he has promised to subpoena Fauci’s records and bring Fauci out of retirement to answer more questions.”

— Rand Paul (@RandPaul) October 10, 2022

The City-Journal’s John Tierney writes, “For all its virtues, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington has never been considered a realistic film. Critics complain that Frank Capra’s movie is at once too corny and too cynical: one brave senator singlehandedly defending the public good against the thoroughly corrupt political and journalistic establishments. But we’ve been seeing a version of that plot for two years now, thanks to Senator Rand Paul’s lonely battle against Anthony Fauci, the Centers for Disease Control, and the mainstream press.

Like the politicians meekly following orders in the film, most of Washington has bowed to the CDC’s Covid edicts, but Paul has never tired of challenging the agency’s futile policies and dubious science. Like the movie’s media baron Jim Taylor, Fauci’s cheerleaders in the press and on social-media platforms have shamelessly pushed the party line—and worked hard to squelch opposing views, though they prefer to use ‘fact-checkers’ rather than the street thugs whom Taylor hired to silence a rival newspaper. Journalists have smeared Paul, and censors have removed some of his scientifically accurate heresies from YouTube, but no one can stop him from regularly berating Fauci at the televised hearings of the Senate health committee.”

“President Joe Biden warned those of us who are unvaccinated that we would be in for nuclear winter of death, dismay, and punishment for our recalcitrance.

Suffering and death would be our just reward for defying Dr. Anthony Fauci’s mandates.

And then the Omicron variant came and infected everyone, regardless of their vaccination status. Even Democrats thrice vaccinated, wearing N95 masks, earplugs, and goggles got Omicron.

If Fauci cared a fig about saving lives, he would be touting early treatment with monoclonal antibodies at each of his myriad daily press appearances. https://t.co/qXXhNoCecP

It seems the virus ignored the Biden directive to selectively attack ‘deplorables.’

Blame is still heaped on anyone who dares to make their own decisions regarding vaccination. In fact, a recent poll of Democrats indicates that about half of those surveyed actually believe that it’s justifiable to indefinitely detain people who refuse to be vaccinated.

And then came Omicron, indiscriminate in its attack.

In fact, some studies showed the vaccine actually having a negative efficacy after 90 days, meaning the vaccinated were more likely to become infected than the unvaccinated.”

Kenny Cody writes at NewsMax, “We’ve even recently been witness to Fauci, the current director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden, become appreciably flustered when Rand Paul questioned his authority, if not his integrity.

Senator Paul has continued to fight against authoritarians that desire nothing but control.

My latest for @newsmax:https://t.co/74j8qpQvYr

Paul, a physician himself, grilled the virologist (Fauci) on multiple occasions, accusing him and the National Institutes of Health of providing funding for gain-of-function research to communist China, lying to the American public about masking, and labeling fellow health experts as ‘fringe’ if they questioned the government-approved narratives on COVID-19.

This begs a question: Why is Fauci propped up as a virtual deity and all-knowing power when it comes to our current pandemic?

If science is ever-changing, why are those questioning its current status condemned as though they’ve blasphemed?”

A few years ago I watched a movie called “Safety Not Guaranteed” that I loved and highly recommend. I was thinking about it yesterday as a salesperson cheerfully exhorted me to “stay safe” as I checked out. It’s something we hear everyday now – from strangers, TV anchors, salespeople.

Safety is both the mantra and central desire of our times.

We demand that Joe Biden, or Anthony Fauci, or Google –-someone, anyone, please tell us exactly what to do to keep us safe. Anyone but ourselves, of course. It must be an authority, someone who is more “expert,” thereby absolving us of pesky decision-making, conflict, or God forbid, blame.

Thus freed of any essential responsibility, we are available for endless glazed-eyed scrolling, Netflix binging, and Uber-eating, all from the safety of the sofa. We are comfortable, dull, obedient, and insulated in body and mind. Our fleecy sweatpants feel great and trolling “far right conspiracists” on Twitter gives us just the right hit of dopamine to feel even better – virtuous even! After all, we are following the rules! We are inside and safe and double masked, double-vaxxed, double-boosted, and we display the approved level of contempt or better yet, hatred, for those who are not.

But it’s not enough to keep ourselves safe. No. If others don’t comply they should be forced to do so, because their very act of noncompliance makes us feel uncomfortable, and vaguely concerned that maybe we should think a little harder about our own choices. And that’s just too much work. Plus it gives us FOMO if everyone isn’t lying on the couch. (That’s why, according to Rasmussen, half of Democrats favor segregated camps, fines and prison terms for those who publicly disagree with COVID policy. Remember, they have empathy! They just care more!)

And so we offload our discernment, our very agency as free adults, to others in the name of safety. Thank God Dr. Fauci and Dr. Collins cared enough to do that “devastating public takedown” of those annoying Stanford and Harvard epidemiologists, before we had to trouble our minds with their challenging ideas. It’s so much easier and more comforting to know that one man is “The Science.”

And thanks to Mark Zuckerberg and his anonymous, all-knowing fact-checkers, we will no longer have to see anything decreed to be misleading, dangerous or debunked – we won’t be aware of it at all! It’s great that we don’t have to trouble our pretty heads with ideas until they have been fully approved by the authorities.

After all, they are smarter than we are. Conspiracy theories about the US funding of the Wuhan lab, or cloth masks not stopping viral spread, or any other worrisome, conflicting ideas will be swiftly censored.

We instead, apparently, need to think about important things like ordering some new sweatpants from Amazon. These are getting snug.

No, Rand Paul isn’t ‘pandemic profiteering’ off his #FireFauci campaign

“Let’s be clear: Rand Paul is fundraising off of his efforts to fire Fauci. He has a button on his website featuring this campaign. But what’s wrong with that?

As Paul said in an interview after their latest showdown, ‘I’m proud of the fact people go to RandPaul.com raising money to fire Fauci because he is a menace. Everything he said has been incorrect. And I think he is part of the problem.’

We know Paul raises money over this issue, and he has no problem admitting that he asks for donations to help fire Fauci.

But does this mean this is the actual purpose of Paul’s questions?

The Washington Post’s Philip Bump asked the same question on Thursday in a column titled, ‘How politically helpful have Rand Paul’s attacks on Anthony Fauci been?’

Using spikes in Google traffic each time Fauci and Paul have squared off, Bump determined that Paul had raised his media profile each time and, yes, that has translated into increased donations.

But this didn’t seem to lead Bump to the conclusion that Paul’s Fauci questions were merely or even primarily about political or financial gain.

‘It’s clear that Paul is trying to generate contributions and attention from his fights with Fauci (the website to which Fauci referred is online, for example), but it’s not clear that this is central to Paul’s political efforts.”

‘Nor should one assume Paul’s confrontations are solely offered in bad faith,’ Bump wrote. ‘While Fauci has repeatedly pushed back on his line of questioning, it’s a line of questioning that our fact-checkers consider to be in a gray area.”

“A planner who believes he is the science leads to an arrogance that justifies in his mind using government resources to smear and to destroy the reputations of other scientists who disagree with him,’ Paul said to Fauci. ‘Do you think it’s appropriate to use your $420,000 salary to attack scientists that disagree with you?’

Fauci replied, ‘That’s not what went on. There you go again. You do the same thing every hearing.’

No, this is what Fauci does every hearing.

“Fauci didn’t answer @RandPaul. In fact, he hardly ever answers Paul.
Fauci didn’t answer Paul. In fact, he hardly ever answers Paul. But most stories on exchanges between Fauci and Paul do not focus on the fact that a government official being held accountable by a U.S. senator is never actually held accountable. Most reports just focus on the supposed audacity of Paul for challenging Fauci and Fauci getting mad about it.

So it becomes ‘Furious’ Fauci ‘tearing’ into Paul. That’s typically the story in the mainstream press—not what Paul actually asked Fauci. Most journalists seem far less interested in that.

They want the wrestling match and to cheer for their hero.”
